Thanks to the courtesy of Professor Flavio Sacco dos Anjos and his blog Sacco Pelotas Family, from which we took news and photos, we reveal one of the many unknown events of Buccinese emigrants.
Giuseppe Sacco, the progenitor of the family, was born in Buccino around 1846 and came to Pelotas (Brazil) probably in 1896, when he had approx 50 years.
He married Maria Rosa Pacelli with whom he had Vincenzo, Michele and Domenico Sacco.
In 1906/1907 he created one of the first canning industries in Pelotas, producing and exporting canned peaches. This era in Rua General Victorino 35 (currently Rua Anchieta), between Rua Major Cícero and Rua Senador Mendonça.
Domenico, Giuseppe's youngest son, was born in Buccino on 27 marzo 1881 and after a few years in Brazil he returned to Italy. He was called to arms at the outbreak of the First World War and as a soldier of the 175th battery Bombardieri died on 18 novembre 1917 just 36 years for injuries sustained in combat.
To take over the canning company created by his father was his son Vincenzo (Vicente), born in Buccino on 3 February 1874. In December 1937 Vincenzo Sacco's industry had exported to Italy, between 28/11 e il 04/12, 10 volumes of peach jam, for a total of 273 kg and a value of 965.000 trip (cf.. Bulletin of the Commercial Association of Pelotas, 15 (4.12.1937), p. 7). With his death, in 1947 the canning activity ended and his children decided to devote himself to other activities.
From the first marriage to Rachel Lofrano she had José, Celina (born in Herval in 1906 and called the “Regina di Osório Street” for her beauty) and Luis.
In second marriage he married Raquel Maria Presti from which Domingos and Filomena were born.
Sundays, Vincenzo's second bed son, he married Léa with whom he had Gínia Gilce, Sandra and Fabio, Born on 28.9.1953
Filomena, Vincenzo's second bed daughter, from her husband (Orimando Muller) ebbe Carmem Lúcia (in Silva) and João Vicente (in Muller)
Luis, son of Vicente's first bed, was born in Herval on 24.7.1905 and devoted himself to the activity of tinker (expert blacksmith in the manufacture of zinc canopies and gutters) that had always distinguished the family.
His son was Eddy.
José (Giuseppe), Luis's brother, was born in Herval in 1904 and was employed by the Railways. In his spare time he was an artist: he played guitar and banjo, painted, he loved Carnival, and was a member of the famous “Typical Orchestra Rizzolo”, with which he performed several times in concerts promoted by Radio Cultura di Pelotas. In 1932 married Francisca da Silva, from which he had Marlene and Vicente, and died alone 39 years.
The son Vicente (said Vicentinho), degree in Accounting Sciences, in 1965 he married Noemi Castro Gomes with whom he had Simone, Milene, Helene, Francine and Anne.
The daughter Marlene married Dr. Flávio Pereira dos Anjos, lawyer and banking, from which he had Rejane (born in 1958), Rosana (born in 1960), Flavio, today university professor (born in 1961) and Renata (born in 1969).
Flavio, graduated in 1983 in Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Pelotas, he holds a master's degree in Sociology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1994) and then in 2000 the PhD in Sociology Agroecology and Peasant Studies at the University of Cordoba (Spain). He is currently a consultant to the Brazilian National Scientific Council for technological development and associate professor at the Department of Agricultural Social Sciences of the Faculty of Agronomy “Elisha Maciel” dell’Federal University of Pelotas.
